KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged 2,195 fresh Covid-19 cases, reported the Health Ministry.

This brings the country’s total caseload to 375,054, of which 19,854 are active.

Eight new fatalities were registered, making for a total of 1,378 deaths since the pandemic began.

Topping the list of new coronavirus infections is Sarawak with 508 cases, followed by Selangor (431), Johor (387) and Kelantan (332).

Kuala Lumpur registered 176 cases, Sabah (112), Penang (84), Negri Sembilan (42), Perak (35) and Kedah (30).

Terengganu saw 16 cases, Pahang and Melaka (15 each), Labuan (6), and Putrajaya and Perlis (3 each).

With another 1,427 recoveries, the overall figure is now 353,822, said the ministry.

It said 219 Covid-19 patients are in intensive care, of whom 90 are intubated.

Eighteen of the new infections were reported in clusters involving detention centres, namely Jalan Salleh (11), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (5), Tembok Sri Aman (1) and DTI Lenggeng (1).

The country has seen 1,520 clusters, including five new ones today.

Of the total, 1,182 have been contained, including 14 today, namely D. Gana, Jalan Permas Baru, Buloh Pasi, Sena, Industri Inanam, Perusahaan 10, Queens Waterfront construction site, Sg Bakong, Jalan Kayu Manis, Dataran Utas, Bukit Tambun, Jalan Lapan Belas, Jalan Sutera and Jalan Green.

Of the 338 clusters that are still active, 64 recorded fresh cases. Those with the highest number of new infections are Jalan Perindustrian Satu (249), Kok Lanas (74) and Kg Bunut Sarang Burung (43).

Three of the five new clusters are related to workplaces, and one each involving the community and an education institution.

Selangor’s Selat Klang cluster, involving Klang and Petaling, recorded 25 cases, while the Cahaya Alam construction site cluster in Petaling has 20.

Johor’s Jalan Perindustrian Satu cluster, involving Muar, logged 254 cases.

In Sarawak, the Tarat Tani cluster in Serian has 21 infections, while the Jalan Bintulu Sibu cluster, involving Tatau and Bintulu, registered 11. – The Vibes, April 18, 2021
