JOHOR BARU – A waste collection company and four individuals were today fined between RM12,000 and RM20,000 each by the sessions court here after they pleaded guilty to illegally dumping oconstruction and industrial solid waste between July and October last year.
Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman imposed the fine on Sama Mahir Sdn Bhd, which was represented by its director Tan Chee Siong, 49, and Nordin Abdul Said, 39, Tey Chiou Hwai, 44, Chong Wei Lun, 30, and Chen Wei Xuan, 26.
Sama Mahir was charged with dumping industrial solid waste on government land at Lot 3053 in Mukim Plentong here about 10.30am on September 1.
Nordin, a lorry driver, was charged with illegally dumping construction solid waste at Lot 705 in Mukim Sg Tiram here about 4pm on July 14.
Company manager Tey was charged with illegally dumping industrial solid waste at Lot 580 in Mukim Tebrau here about 4.40pm on August 4.
Chong, also a lorry driver, was charged with illegally dumping construction waste at Lot PTD 216964 in Kg Plentong Baru here at 4.46pm on September 7.
Company director Chen was charged with committing the same offence at Lot 211042 in Kg Plentong Baru about 11am on October 12.
All of them were charged under Section 71(1) of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007, which provides for a fine of between RM10,000 and RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corp prosecuting officer Rubiah Maulud, while the company and four individuals were unrepresented. – Bernama, April 19, 2021
