SINGAPORE – A 22-year-old Malaysian was arrested in Singapore last Friday on suspicion of drug trafficking, with narcotics enough to supply 12,000 addicts for a week seized.

The republic’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), in a statement on its website, said the suspect was detained near Choa Chu Kang Ave 4.

The drugs seized weighed more than 40kg, with a value of S$2.3 million (RM7.1 million). They include 16,548g of heroin, 2,033g of syabu, 23,687g of cannabis and 110 Ecstasy tablets.

The suspect was arrested with four bundles of cannabis, weighing 3,915g, on his person. A search of his “hideout” – a residential unit near where he was nabbed – led to the discovery of more drugs.

Eight bundles containing 3,782g of heroin and two bundles containing 2,033g of syabu, as well as 110 Ecstasy tablets, were seized from the bedroom. Twenty-seven bundles containing 12,766g of heroin and 20 bundles containing 19,772g of cannabis were found in the storeroom.

“Investigations into the suspect’s drug-related activities are ongoing,” said CNB.

It said all the drugs seized are enough to supply 7,880 heroin, 1,160 syabu and 3,380 cannabis abusers for a week. – Bernama, April 19, 2021
