KUALA LUMPUR – As more “revelations” surfaced from Senator Liew Chin Tong’s book, Bandar Baru Klang assemblyman Datuk Teng Chang Khim is not mincing his words in criticising his party mate.
Teng, who is also DAP central executive committee member, said Liew should stop complaining. “Give me a break. You had willingly offered yourself to be fooled by (current Prime Minister Tan Sri) Muhyiddin (Yassin). Don’t complain now,” he posted on Facebook in response to an article by Free Malaysia Today.
Teng also chided Liew, saying: “The great strategist who tried his very best to convince the party members and the supporters to trust Muhyiddin since 2016 to the extent that he brought Muhyiddin to the party leadership retreat.
“(Liew who) did not want questions like UEC to be raised so that Muhyiddin would not be offended or embarrassed, is telling us today that Muhyiddin has been a bad guy since 2016.”
Teng’s outburst came after Liew wrote that the idea of a combination of Muhyiddin and Senior Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali was mooted as early as 2016, four years before the Sheraton Move in February 2020.
In his book Lim Kit Siang: Patriot. Leader. Fighter, Liew revealed that the idea – involving Muhyiddin and Azmin – was put forward by an “important NGO leader”.
“Instead, the person proposed for Muhyiddin to be PM and Azmin to be his deputy. The meeting did not end well,” Liew wrote.
“There was a narrative after the Sheraton Move to promote the idea that Muhyiddin was an ‘accidental prime minister’ coming to the rescue when there was a deadlock (between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad).
“Kit (Lim Kit Siang) and I were the eyewitnesses to history that it wasn’t true.”
Liew also wrote that the combo of Dr Mahathir and Anwar had kept Azmin waiting for his chance to be prime minister. – The Vibes, April 22, 2021
