KUALA LUMPUR – A group of 20 non-governmental organisations today submitted a memorandum protesting against Hari Raya Aidilfitri-themed gambling advertisements to Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin.
The memorandum, which called on the government to take action against illegal gambling operators, was handed over by Malaysian Muslim Consumers’ Association chief activist Datuk Nadzim Johan to Zahidi at the latter’s office here.
Zahidi said it is no easy task eradicating online gambling.
“It cannot be wiped out just like that because in our country, whenever gambling or porn apps are blocked, they just resurface later,” he told the press.
“It’s difficult for us to control because the servers are overseas.”
He said there should be a system to keep such activities in check. – Bernama, April 22, 2021
