KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 2,847 new Covid-19 cases today, as the daily figure remains near the 3,000-mark.
Eight fatalities were also recorded, taking the death toll to 1,415.
The Health Ministry also reported that seven of the deceased were locals while one was a foreigner.
Three of the patients succumbed to the virus before arriving to the hospital.
With regards to the new infections reported today, only four were imported.
Today’s figure takes the cumulative number of cases to 387,535.
A total of 2,341 recoveries were logged, while 260 remain in intensive care and 125 require breathing support.
Selangor logged the highest number of infections with 748, followed by Sarawak (717), and Kelantan (476).
Next was Kuala Lumpur (302), followed by Johor (130), Negri Sembilan (105), Penang (89), Sabah (82), Perak (45), Kedah (44), Melaka (42), Pahang (39), Putrajaya (14), Terengganu (11), and Labuan (3).
Perlis saw no new virus cases today.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry confirmed that 354 clusters remain active, including the eight new ones identified today.
The Jalan Roban Lama and the Jalan Selirik clusters were identified in Sarawak, involving educational institutions. They recorded 48 and 23 infections respectively.
Meanwhile, the Jalan Sungai Daun cluster in Penang, Persiaran Sri Saujana cluster in Johor, and Mempaga Satu cluster in Pahang also involved educational institutions.
Only one new worksite cluster – the Jalan Bukit Bintang cluster in Kuala Lumpur – was reported today.
The Gong Dermin cluster in Kelantan and the Seri Desa cluster in Pahang both involved local communities in Pahang and Kelantan. – The Vibes, April 23, 2021
