MIRI – Sarawak saw yet another day of high Covid-19 infection numbers with 717 cases and logged two deaths, one of whom was a 31-year-old man without comorbidities.

The victim died at Miri Hospital.

The other fatality was a 69-year-old woman, who died at Sibu Hospital.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat, in a statement, said Sarawak has recorded a total of 148 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic began.

It said the victim in Miri had complained of breathing difficulties, after which he was hospitalised on April 7.

“He did not have any comorbidities. He died on April 21.

“Tests on the body over the past two days confirmed that the victim died of Covid-19.”

Of the 717 new infections, Sibu district recorded 165, Bintulu (162), Kuching (57), Saratok (45), Meradong (44), Miri (40), Subis (38), Kapit (31), Mambong (28), Sebauh and Mukah (27 each), Selangau (15) and other districts (fewer than 10).

The secretariat said two fresh clusters were detected, bringing the state’s total to 56.

The new clusters are Jalan Roban in Saratok, where 40 college students and staff tested positive, and Serilik in Kapit, involving 28 boarding school students. – The Vibes, April 23, 2021
