GEORGE TOWN – The Penang government has called on the corporate sector and philanthropists to donate to the arts and culture sector, which has been left crippled by the Covid-19 pandemic.
It could take years for the arts scene to fully recover, said state exco Yeoh Soon Hin after opening an exhibition by contemporary artist Frankie Lim at the Ming Fine Art Gallery at St Jo, Gurney Paragon Mall here.
Yeoh said contributors can organise art exhibitions and sales, as well as buy the creations of Penang’s budding artists.
“If we choose to ignore them, we will be letting our own talent down, and with it, halt the inroads and progress we have made to see Penang as a proud owner of arts and culture.”
Lim, who has autism, uses art as a way to connect with people. His exhibition will run from July 9 to 18.
Yeoh said arts and culture can serve as a platform for social inclusion, so that individuals like Lim can interact more confidently with others. – The Vibes, April 23, 2021
