GEORGE TOWN – A 25-year-old female sales executive died on the spot after she was involved in a road mishap in the pre-dawn hours here today.

The woman, who worked with a telecommunications company, lost control of the Volkswagen Polo vehicle she was driving in as it travelled along Jalan Masjid Negri, opposite the Lam Wah Ee Hospital around 3am today.

The vehicle somehow went off road and smashed into a tree before coming to a halt at the road shoulder.

The victim suffered head injuries and was pronounced death on the scene by first responders who arrived shortly after passers-by alerted emergency services.

Traffic was believed to be light during the accident.

Northeast district police chief ACP Soffian Santong confirmed the incident and urged any witnesses to contact the traffic police to assist in the investigation.

The victim was sent to the Penang Hospital for a post-mortem to be conducted. – The Vibes, April 24, 2021
