KOTA KINABALU – More than 100,000 consumers in Labuan and Sabah experienced electrical power supply disruption lasting almost five hours yesterday.
The failure was caused by a simultaneous power trip at several independent power producers in Sepanggar.
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) in a statement today said 18% of users were affected by the power cut, which occurred at 5.59pm.
“Power restoration was done in stages from 7.43pm (yesterday), and was fully restored at 9.39pm,” said SESB senior general manager Norhizami Abu Hasan.
The affected areas were Labuan, Kudat, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, Kota Kinabalu, Pitas, Tuaran, Keningau, Semporna and Sandakan.
A team of investigators has been formed to identify the cause of the power failure, and will take future mitigation approaches.
SESB in a statement to Bernama last night apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked all consumers involved for their patience. – The Vibes, April 26, 2021
