KUALA LUMPUR – Ten policemen and two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers have been arrested over their alleged links to Geng Nicky, said Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
Ayob Khan at a press conference today said the arrests were made by Johor Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) personnel under Phase 2 of Op Pelican 3.0.
He reiterated his refusal to reveal the names of those arrested as they have yet to be charged, adding that the suspects have been remanded for 28 days under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
“From April 21 to 26, Johor CCID personnel conducted operations in Selangor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur.
“The 12 arrested are aged between 36 and 49.”
He said among those nabbed are an inspector and superintendent based in the Bukit Aman police headquarters here.
A deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent from the special branch, and two inspectors from the Selangor police contingent were also detained.
A deputy superintendent was arrested in Melaka, while two assistant superintendents from the Kuala Lumpur contingent were detained.
An inspector from a police training centre was nabbed in Negri Sembilan, while two MACC personnel were detained in Putrajaya.
Investigations will be conducted pursuant to Sections 130V to 130ZB of the Penal Code, which concern offences relating to organised crime.
MACC chief Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest of two of his men.
The duo have been handed over to police for investigation, he said.
“I take the matter seriously, and will not compromise. We will hand over (to police) if there are more (officers) involved.”
On April 14, Ayob Khan had said: “We are preparing investigation papers, and once they are completed, we will arrest them.
“I will charge them for organised crime. That is the most accurate, firmest and simplest action I can take, but I must ensure I have enough evidence.
“Please give me some time. The list will never be revealed. So, please stop asking me or Bukit Aman about it.”
On March 30, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador revealed that there are “traitors” in enforcement bodies, with 34 uniformed personnel from various agencies in cahoots with the gang, hours after cops nabbed 68 members.
Hamid plans on taking action against police officers who allegedly helped the syndicate.
“No more warnings. Sufficient warnings have been given in the past for them to sever any tie with this gang.
“But it looks like there are some traitors in the force.”
On April 9, 14 members of the gang, including four Chinese nationals, three individuals carrying Datuk titles and one Datuk Seri, were charged at the Petaling Jaya sessions court.
Gang mastermind Datuk Seri Nicky Liow Soon Hee was charged in absentia, while his siblings, Datuk Liow Wei Loon and Datuk Liow Wei Kin, were hauled to court.
Yesterday, Nicky and Wei Loon were stripped of their datuk seri and datuk titles, respectively. The revocations were made on the order of the Pahang sultan. – The Vibes, April 27, 2021
