3,332 new Covid-19 cases today

This marks the second day in a row infections have risen above 3,000

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 3,332 Covid-19 cases today, the second day in a row that infections rose above the 3,000 mark since February, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

On Twitter, the Health director-general said 15 deaths were recorded, bringing the death toll to 1,492.

The new cases today, he said, also pushes the total caseload to 404,925 since the pandemic began.

The country also saw 1,943 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 1,943.

Nine of the new cases are imported, one of which involved a local, while the others are foreigners.

Of the 28,093 active cases, 309 are under intensive care, while 147 are intubated.

Selangor tops the list with 1,083 cases, followed by Sarawak (522), Kelantan (401), Kuala Lumpur (359), and Johor (207).

Penang detected 158 cases, followed by Sabah (131), Negri Sembilan (111), Kedah (105), Pahang (92), Perak (91), Melaka (43), Terengganu (19), Putrajaya (nine), and Perlis (one).

Labuan did not record any new cases today.

Dr Noor Hisham said 45 cases today were related to detention centres involving the DTI Lenggeng cluster (43) and the Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (two).

He said Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur recorded four deaths each, Selangor logged three deaths, Sarawak two, and one each in Sabah and Johor. 

He also said 14 of the deaths involved locals, while one was a foreigner.

So far, the country has seen 1,638 clusters, including 12 clusters today.

Clusters that have ended are at 1,260, including four clusters, which are the Jalan Usahawan, Jalan Azlan, Banggol Chicha, and Jalan Sebelas clusters.

Of the 378 active clusters, 83 recorded new cases. 

The clusters that recorded new cases are the DTI Lenggeng cluster (43), Raub Jaya cluster (38), and Jalan Adika Raja cluster (33).

Dr Noor Hisham said four of the new clusters came from the community, three from higher learning institutions, another three from workplaces, and two from religious activities.

Selangor recorded the Bukit Rotan cluster in Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, Klang, and the Port Dickson district in Negri Sembilan with 16 cases; the Jalan RP Tiga cluster in Gombak and Hulu Selangor with 46 cases; and the Jalan Tiga Belas cluster with 14 cases.

Sarawak logged the Tabuan Jaya cluster in Kuching, Serian, and Samarahan with 22 cases; and the Sileng Dayak cluster in Lundu and Kuching with 72 cases. 

Kelantan detected the Kampung Pemanok cluster in Machang with 27 cases, and the Batu Lada cluster in Kuala Krai and Machang with 21 cases.

Pahang saw the Raub Jaya cluster in Raub, Lipis, and Bentong with 54 cases. Johor recorded the Jalan Abdul Rahman Andak cluster in Johor Baru with 12 cases, and the Kg Parit Bunga cluster in Tangkak with eight cases.

Finally, Perak recorded the Jalan Adika Raja cluster in Hulu Perak along with Baling in Kedah with 34 cases, as well as the Jalan Pokok Assam cluster in Larit, Matang, and Salama with 14 cases. – The Vibes, April 29, 2021
