THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has seized a mobile phone and eSIM for forensic analysis as part of an investigation into a Threads post suspected of insulting the Negeri Sembilan royal institution.

The investigation followed a complaint over content concerning the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, MCMC said in a statement today.

The commission said it had recorded an individual’s statement at the Labu police station to obtain information and establish the facts surrounding the post.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

MCMC is also examining the circulation of the content on social media and will work with other enforcement agencies if evidence points to additional offences under existing laws.

The commission said any enforcement action would be based on facts, evidence and due legal process.

It also stressed that freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly, in accordance with the law and with respect for the royal institution. - October 18, 2026
