KUALA LUMPUR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today presented the instrument of appointment to Penang’s eighth Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tan Sri Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak at Istana Negara here.
The appointment takes effect tomorrow for a four-year term.
Fuzi replaces Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas, who served in the post for two decades.
The king also conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara, which carries the title Tun, on Fuzi.
Present at the palace were Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, Senate president Tan Sri Rais Yatim, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and state Secretary Datuk Abdul Razak Jaafar.
Born in Sg Bakap, the 72-year-old Fuzi joined the administrative and diplomatic service in 1972, and has served in various capacities at the Foreign Ministry, including secretary-general.
He also led senior Malaysian officials in various bilateral meetings, as well as regional and international summits.
Fuzi played a prominent role in organising the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in 2003, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Summit (2003), and Asean Summit and Related Summits here (2005). – Bernama, April 30, 2021
