KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases have shot back up past the 3,000 mark, with 3,120 registered today.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported 23 coronavirus fatalities, making for a total of 1,574 lives lost since the pandemic began.
Selangor again leads the daily tally, this time with 675 infections.
Sarawak is second with 620, followed by Kuala Lumpur (408), Johor (336) and Kelantan (296).
Penang logged 167 cases, Kedah (155), Perak (117), Negri Sembilan (95) and Sabah (89).
There are 53 fresh infections in Terengganu, Melaka (52), Pahang (41), Putrajaya (11) and Labuan (5).
Perlis is the sole state with no new cases.
The latest infections bring the country’s overall caseload to 420,632, of which 31,516 are active.
Dr Noor Hisham said of the new cases, only six were imported.
There are another 2,334 recoveries, taking the total to 387,542, while 181 Covid-19 patients are intubated of the 338 in intensive care.
Dr Noor Hisham said 70 cases today were related to detention centres – at the Pagar Sri Lalang (57), Jalan Meru Utama (11), and Pagar Siput Dia (2) clusters.
He added that Kelantan and Selangor recorded six deaths each; followed by four in Sarawak; two cases each in Johor and Sabah; as well as one fatality each in Kedah, Perak, and Melaka. All of the victims were locals.
So far, the country has seen 1,706 clusters, including 17 new clusters today. He said seven of the new clusters are from the community; five are from workplaces; four are from education centres; and one is from religious activities.
Sarawak logged the Jalan Bungey cluster in Betong with 12 cases, and the Batu 25 cluster in Bintulu and Sebauh with 98 cases.
Johor saw the Tangkis Selatan cluster in Tangkak, Muar, and Segamat with 11 cases; the Jalan Ungku Abdul Aziz cluster in Kota Tinggi with 22 cases; the Taman Sri Lambak cluster in Kluang with 13 cases; the Persiaran Medini Sentral cluster in Johor Baru with nine cases; and the Jalan Surian cluster in Kota Tinggi with eight cases.
Kelantan detected the Batu 30 cluster in Machang with 58 cases; while Kedah recorded the Jerai Maju cluster in Kuala Muda with nine cases, and the Dah Kilometer Tujuh cluster in Baling with 13 cases.
Labuan logged the Layangan Labuan cluster with 12 cases, while Selangor recorded the Taming Jaya cluster in Hulu Langat with 43 cases.
Kelantan recorded the Jalan Kweng Hitam cluster in Machang with 14 cases, while Kuala Lumpur saw the Jalan Yahya 2 cluster in Titiwangsa with 14 cases.
Penang detected the Jalan Besar Sungai Jawi cluster in Seberang Prai with 29 cases; Perak saw the Lubuk Katak cluster in Batang Padang with 24 cases; and Sabah recorded the D’Kuala cluster in Papar with 16 cases.
Of the 405 active clusters, 98 clusters recorded new cases. The clusters with most new infections are the Pagar Sri Lalang cluster (57), Putai cluster (49), and Pintu Air Relau cluster (33).
Clusters that have ended stand at 1,301, including 10 today – Jalan Murni Satu; Fasa Dua Semarak; Gong Kulim; Jalan Gemilang Sukan; Batu 22; DTI Juru; Lintang Bayan Lepas; Jalan Pelabuhan; Integrasi Rawang Tiga; and Padang Hijau. – The Vibes, May 4, 2021
