KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor recorded a whopping 1,548 cases in the past 24 hours as cases remained above the 3,000-mark at 3,744 today.
Malaysia also logged another high of 17 deaths.
The Health Ministry said this takes the death toll to 1,591, and cumulative total cases to 424,376.
After Selangor, the most virus cases were logged in Kelantan (480), Sarawak (419) and Kuala Lumpur (313).
This is followed by Johor (292), Penang (195), Kedah (124), Negri Sembilan (76), Terengganu (73), Perak (65), Sabah (50), Pahang (49), Melaka (43), Putrajaya (11), Labuan (5) and Perlis (1).
The country also recorded 2,304 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 389,846.
Seven of the new cases today are imported, the ministry said.
It added 328 people are in intensive care, while 185 require breathing assistance.
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 34 new cases today are related to detention centres – the Pagar Sri Lalang cluster (31), Jalan Meru Utama (two), and DTI Lenggeng (one).
He added that nine deaths were recorded in Selangor, two cases each in Johor, Perak, and Sarawak, and one each in Kelantan and Negri Sembilan. All cases involved locals.
The country has so far seen 1,726 clusters, including 20 clusters today.
Clusters that have ended are at 1,315, including 14 clusters today – Persiaran Indahpura Utama, Jalan Permas Cetak, Taman Emas, Jalan Rasmi, Taman Vistagro, Jalan Putra Square, Jalan Kastam Baru, Jalan Kampung Hilir, Jalan Muhibbah, Jalan Anak Gasing, Jalan Faizal, Kebun Baru, Highline, and the Jalan You City construction site clusters.
Of the 411 active clusters, 99 recorded new cases. The clusters with highest new cases are the Tok Has (53), Jalan Padang Tembak (43), and Jalan Wau (34).
Dr Noor Hisham said eight of the new clusters today are related to workplaces, while six are from the community, four from the education sector, three from institutions under the Education Ministry, and two related to religious activities.
Kelantan recorded the Kg Padang Lalang cluster in Pasir Mas with 15 cases, and the Kg Paya Ular cluster in Pasir Mas with 41 cases.
Sarawak saw the Sg Mas cluster in Bintulu and 53 cases, the Mongkos cluster in Kuching and Tebedu with 23 cases, the Jalan Sawit cluster in Sarikei with 18 cases, and the Tanjong Kibong in Sibu with 35 cases.
Kuala Lumpur detected the Sri Manjalara cluster in Kepong with six cases, the Jalan Yaacob Latif cluster in Cheras with six cases, and the Jalan Damai Bakti cluster in Cheras, Titiwangsa, and Kepong with 20 cases.
Johor recorded the Persiaran Layar Perak in Johor Bahru with 13 cases, the Jalan Dato Onn cluster in Kota Tinggi with nine cases, and the Jalan Kukup cluster in Pontian with five cases.
Perak logged the Taman Pertama cluster in Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah with 10 cases, while Melaka detected the Kopitiam Machap Baru cluster in Alor Gajah and Jasin with 20 cases.
Pahang has the Tanah Putih Baru cluster in Kuantan with 26 cases, the Mahkota Height cluster in Kuantan with 11 cases, and the Mutiara Bentong cluster in Bentong and Temerloh with 15 cases.
Finally, Selangor recorded the Taman Medan cluster in Petaling with 27 cases, the Seruling Dua Belas cluster in Hulu Selangor with 12 cases, and the Persiaran Setia Prima cluster with 27 cases. – The Vibes, May 5, 2021
