KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged another 3,551 Covid-19 cases, 1,137 of which are in Selangor.
In second place is Kuala Lumpur with 477 infections, followed by Sarawak (391), Kelantan (326) and Penang (305).
Johor recorded 258 cases, followed by Perak (137), Kedah (112), Pahang (97), Negri Sembilan (85), Melaka (82), Sabah (69) and Terengganu (58).
Putrajaya logged 12 cases, Perlis (3) and Labuan (2).
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement, said today’s cases bring the national total to 427,927.
Sixteen of the fresh infections are imported, he said, with 10 involving locals.
He reported another 19 coronavirus fatalities, taking the death toll to 1,610.
There are 2,709 new recoveries, he said, making for a total of 392,555.
Dr Noor Hisham said 354 Covid-19 patients are in intensive care, with 199 requiring breathing assistance.
Three cases were detected in detention centres, involving the Pengkalan Chepa cluster (2) and Pagar Sri Lalang cluster (1).
Five deaths were recorded in Sarawak; Johor and Selangor (3 each); Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur (2 each); and, Kedah, Negri Sembilan and Terengganu (1 each).
Malaysia has registered a total of 1,740 clusters, including 14 new ones today.
The clusters declared contained number 1,322, including seven today: Bukit Sera, Danan, Jalan Kubota Sentral, Jalan Kenanga, Pagar Bukit Chagar, Tembok Taiping and Jalan Taming.
Of the 418 clusters still active, 96 recorded new cases. The clusters with the most fresh cases are Jalan Besar Sg Jawi (94), Jalan Padang Tembak (75) and Industri Lengkuk Teknologi (59).
Dr Noor Hisham said eight of the new clusters are related to the workplace, community (2), education sector (3), and high-risk group and religious activity (1 each).
Selangor saw the Jalan Batu Arang cluster in Gombak with 15 cases, Industri Platinum cluster in Kuala Selangor (10), an education-related cluster in Jalan Teknologi Kota Damansara (58), and Jalan Sg Merab cluster in Hulu Langat and Sepang (10).
Perak registered the Persiaran Meru Raya cluster in Kinta and Manjung (14 cases) and Persiaran Meru Greentown Tujuh cluster in Kinta (11), while Kelantan recorded the Jalan Temangan cluster in Machang (9) and Kg Chat cluster in Pasir Mas (17).
Johor detected the Jalan Pertama Empat cluster in Johor Baru (8 cases) and Jalan Korma cluster in Batu Pahat (25), while Negri Sembilan saw the Industri Lengkuk Teknologi cluster in Seremban and Port Dickson (64).
Sabah’s Jalan Tunku cluster in Kota Kinabalu, Papar, Putatan and Penampang has 10 infections.
Pahang logged the Indera Mahkota Lima cluster in Kuantan (18 cases), while Kedah saw the Lubuk Emas cluster in Bandar Bahari (12). – The Vibes, May 6, 2021
