KUALA LUMPUR – Police have shortlisted candidates for the post of the force’s No. 2, said top cop Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
He said a list of names has been submitted to the Police Force Commission (PFC) for consideration.
“PFC will hold discussions with the home minister, the Home Ministry secretary-general, and me.
“The position of deputy inspector-general of police needs to be filled soon, so as to assist me in managing the force. A PFC meeting will be held to determine who the new deputy IGP is,” he told Bernama at Bukit Aman today.
Acryl Sani said the appointment is expected to be announced after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
The post previously held by Acryl Sani is vacant following his appointment as IGP. He takes over from Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, whose contract ended on Monday.
The names previously floated for the deputy IGP’s post are those of the directors of three Bukit Aman departments: Datuk Zamri Yahya (Integrity and Standard Compliance Department), Datuk Ramli Din (Management Department) and Datuk Razarudin Husain (Narcotics Crime Investigation Department).
On Hamid’s allegation of the home minister’s interference in Special Branch, Acryl Sani said police have opened an internal investigation.
There have been six reports lodged nationwide over the matter, he said, with one of them made at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
“Police are in the process of collecting evidence on the claims made, and if necessary, we will call up the parties involved.”
He said offences related to power abuse and graft are usually investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, but police will also conduct their own probe. – Bernama, May 6, 2021
