KUALA LUMPUR – Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani today said he will issue a directive preventing officers from conducting random checks on foreigners.
This is to prevent a handful of cops from abusing their power, he told Bernama at Bukit Aman.
“I will issue a directive to stop this act – inspecting them (foreigners) randomly, without a valid reason – immediately.
“Police also cannot simply detain them to be remanded for two weeks, on the grounds of confirming whether their Immigration Department-stamped passport or other document is genuine.”
Such practices allow room for abuse, he said. – Bernama, May 6, 2021
