RM2 mil firecrackers, smokes, booze seized in S’gor, Johor raids

SHAH ALAM – Police have busted several syndicates distributing smuggled cigarettes, liquor and firecrackers, with items worth more than RM2 million seized, in six raids conducted in Selangor and Johor since last Sunday.

General Operations Force Central Brigade commander Muhammad Abdul Halim said eight local men, aged 33 to 64, were detained.

“In the first raid conducted in Batu Pahat, Johor, at 2.30pm on May 2, we seized various types of cigarettes and firecrackers, believed to have been smuggled, worth RM135,998,” he said in a statement today.

“In the second raid, conducted on premises in Sg Tangkas, Kajang, Selangor, at 4pm on Monday, we seized various types of firecrackers worth RM509,600.”

He said the third raid was carried out on premises in Pasir Gudang, Johor, on Friday, with firecrackers worth RM115,318 confiscated. 

“The fourth raid, conducted at 11am on Friday in Muar, Johor, saw firecrackers worth RM352,350 seized.”

He said the fifth raid, at 12.30pm the same day in Skudai, Johor, led to the seizure of contraband cigarettes worth RM913,000.

The last raid, conducted in Taman Desa Subang at 4.45pm yesterday, saw officers seizing various types of liquor worth RM288,964 found in a three-tonne lorry.

The cases are being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 and Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967. – Bernama, May 9, 2021
