KUALA LUMPUR – The Pakatan Harapan secretariat has announced the members of nine committees to address issues of the day, given the government’s “inability to lead the country”.
The announcement was made in conjunction with PH’s general election win on May 9, 2018, before the pact’s collapse following the Sheraton Move in February last year.
Led by Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik, the education committee comprises Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (Setiawangsa), Teo Nie Ching (Kulai) and Datuk Hasan Baharom (Tampin).
The health committee is headed by Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (Kuala Selangor), and its members are Dr Lee Boon Chye (Gopeng), Dr Kelvin Yii (Bandar Kuching), Datuk Dr Hatta Ramli (Lumut), Sim Tze Tzin (Bayan Baru) and Ong Kian Ming (Bangi).
In a statement today, the opposition coalition said the national economy remains gloomy, with piling debt, loss of foreign investors and rising unemployment, and the government has failed to properly address the Covid-19 pandemic, pointing to a slow-moving vaccination programme and confusing announcements on the movement control order.
PH slammed Putrajaya over the excessive compounds imposed on standard operating procedure violators, double standards in enforcement, confusing SOPs, and the continuing state of emergency that has not succeeded in controlling the spread of the coronavirus, with the situation now reaching a critical point.
“The people are hoping for a big change, but the government’s weakness does not mean PH itself automatically gets stronger, pointing to the need to strengthen PH.”
The pact has yet to announce the leaders of seven committees, saying the decision will be made after these panels’ first meetings.
Committee memberships may be expanded to include experts or any party deemed appropriate.
