[UPDATED] Malaysia’s Covid-19 caseload tops 440,000, record-high 26 deaths logged

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s total Covid-19 cases have breached 440,000, with 3,733 infections recorded today.

Selangor remains the state with the highest number of cases at 1,278, followed by Sarawak (454), Johor (365), Kuala Lumpur (338), Penang (280), Kelantan (254) and Negri Sembilan (205).

Kedah recorded 176 cases, while Pahang has 100, Perak (80), Melaka (66), Sabah (61), Terengganu (49), Putrajaya (20), Labuan (6) and Perlis (1).

Health Director-General (DG) Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country logged 26 fatalities today, bringing the death toll to 1,683 cases.

The country celebrates 3,211 recoveries today, pushing the total discharged to 401,934.

Six of the new Covid-19 cases are imported, five involving foreigners, said Dr Noor Hisham.

Of the 37,060 active cases, 416 are under intensive care, while 216 require breathing assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor recorded seven deaths, while Kuala Lumpur has six, Johor (4), Kelantan (3), Pahang (3), Penang (2) and Sarawak (1).

The country also recorded 13 new clusters today.

Five new clusters are related to workplaces, and another five, the community.

Two new clusters involve religious activities, while another is linked to an Education Ministry-registered learning institution.

Selangor’s Jalan Satu workplace cluster in Gombak has 16 cases, while its Lorong Tiung workplace cluster in Kuala Langat and Klang has 25.

Johor recorded the Kawasan Industri Dua cluster in Muar with 100 cases.

Penang’s Jalan Tun Hussein Onn cluster has 51 cases, while its Kopitiam Kg Selamat cluster has 19. Both are found in Seberang Prai and involve workplaces. The state also recorded the Desa Murni education cluster in Seberang Prai with 29 cases.

Sarawak’s Jalan Stadium Negeri cluster in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian has 17 cases, while its Tebedu Mawang cluster in Tebedu has 21. Both involve the community.

Other community clusters include the Sri Tualang cluster in Pasir Mas, Kelantan (27 cases); Jalan L Sg Behrang cluster in Muallim, Perak (17); and Lak Lok cluster in Besut, Terengganu, and Kota Baru, Kelantan (26).

Johor recorded the Jalan Haji Mahmud religious activity cluster in Johor Baru and Kota Tinggi with 14 cases, while Negri Sembilan recorded the Tanah Merah religious activity cluster in Port Dickson and Seremban with 41 cases. – The Vibes, May 9, 2021
