PETALING JAYA – Police here say road users are using various excuses, such as sending clothes and raya cookies to friends, in a bid to travel across state and district lines without permission.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said that fines were not issued, but the motorists were instead ordered to turn back.
However, he said, compounds would be issued to errant drivers immediately without compromise.
“We have already mounted roadblocks from yesterday and found that thus far there were still many stubborn road users attempting to travel to another state without valid reasons. They were ordered to turn back.
“Among their reasons were sending clothes to friends’ houses in Shah Alam, buying goods, (as well as) taking their families shopping in the Shah Alam area,” he told Bernama after conducting a check at a roadblock at Km 34 of the Federal Highway last night.

He said in order to facilitate the movement of traffic during working hours, police would open additional routes but strict inspections would remain as usual.
Fakhrudin also advised the public to abide by rules stipulated under the movement control order issued by the National Security Council.
Meanwhile, a check by Bernama at the Jalan Duta toll plaza and Sg Besi toll plaza found that traffic flow on several main routes in and out of the capital was under control despite some congestion due to strict inspections at police roadblocks.
On Saturday, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that from today to June 6, all inter-district and interstate travel will not be allowed without police permission. – Bernama, May 10, 2021
