KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged a staggering 4,765 new Covid-19 cases, the highest figure since January 31, led by Selangor with 2,082 infections.
This brings the country’s total caseload to 453,222.
On January 31, 5,298 cases were registered.
The Health Ministry also reported a record 39 fatalities, driving up the death toll to 1,761.
Kuala Lumpur is a distant second behind Selangor in terms of new cases with 540, followed by Sarawak (405), Johor (348), Kelantan (297), Penang (259) and Kedah (226).
Perak registered 172 infections, Negri Sembilan (122), Melaka (110), Sabah (70), Pahang (63), Terengganu (60), Labuan (6), Putrajaya (4) and Perlis (1).
In a tweet today, the Health Ministry warned that daily cases could hit 5,000 in mid-May.

It added that of the daily cases, seven are imported – five Malaysians and two non-citizens – while 469 patients are in intensive care and 244 needing ventilator aid.
Some 3,124 cases have recovered today, bringing cumulative recoveries to 411,360.
Current active cases are at 40,101. Of today’s fresh cases, 467 are non-citizens.
There are 462 active clusters, including 20 new ones identified today by the ministry.
Selangor recorded five clusters, while Kuala Lumpur registered three, all involving worksites. Collectively, these eight clusters logged 434 infections.
The ministry also identified two worksite clusters in Johor: the Jalan Tembaga industry cluster and the Jalan Gangsa industry cluster, which registered 39 cases in total.
The other worksite clusters identified are the Jalan Terbilang cluster in Penang, which logged 43 cases, and the Telipot cluster in Kelantan with 46 infections.
Additionally, two community clusters were identified in Sarawak that totalled 53 infections.
Meanwhile, 60 cases from three community clusters were recorded in Johor, Kelantan, and Sabah.
The Lorong Taman Ipoh Dua cluster, which involves high-risk individuals in Perak, has 21 infections, while the Jalan Muafakat cluster, involving religious activities in Johor, saw 39 cases.
