BUTTERWORTH – A restaurant owner in Kepala Batas was slapped with a RM20,000 compound while 10 of his customers were fined RM4,000 each for violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) on the first day of Hari Raya Aidlifitri yesterday.
Police during their rounds found that the restaurant owner had failed to screen the body temperature of customers prior to allowing them into the premises.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the customers had failed to observe social distancing and enter their particulars either manually or through the MySejahtera app.
“The customers between the age of 20 and 40 were fined for failing to observe SOPs” he said.
Meanwhile, police also issued compounds to five men aged between 23 and 35 for failing to observe social distancing while sitting on the embankment along the Bagan Ajam beach.
Noorzainy said that two men aged 61 and 66 were also fined at the Sungai Nyior roadblock for failing to possess police permits for interstate travel, as is necessary during the movement control order (MCO) between May 12 and June 7.
The men were heading to Penang from Sungai Petani.
A total of 12 roadblocks and 30 police personnel were on duty to monitor SOP flouters during the MCO.
