KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged another 4,140 Covid-19 cases, of which 36% (1,507) are in Selangor, and a record high of 44 deaths.
This brings the country’s death toll to 1,866 while the nation’s cumulative cases stand at 466,330, with Selangor accounting for 152,388.
Of today’s deaths, 43 were Malaysians and one was a non-citizen. On Wednesday, Malaysia recorded 39 deaths and 34 yesterday.
The Health Ministry shared that this week’s deaths have increased 53.7% compared to the previous week while it registered a 15.9% jump in new infections.
Coming in second in terms of new cases today is Johor with 433 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (398), Penang (338), Sarawak (324) and Kedah (239).
Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan logged 190 cases and Perak with 182, followed by Terengganu (119), Pahang (116), Kelantan (109), Melaka (97), Sabah (60), Putrajaya (23), Labuan (3) and Perlis (2).
Of today’s caseload, 3,728 are Malaysians and 403 are non-citizens, while all nine imported cases are Malaysians.
In a reply on Twitter, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest round of cases were those exposed to the virus a week or two before the movement control order.
“It is hoped that everyone (is) staying at home and obeying the SOPs, the caseloads will reduce after two weeks of MCO3.0.”
Dr Noor Hisham also revealed that 482 patients are in intensive care, with 250 needing ventilator support.
Today’s recoveries are at 3,432, bringing the cumulative total to 422,329. Active cases are at 42,135.
The Health Ministry (MoH) shared that this week’s deaths have increased 53.7% compared to the previous week, while it registered a 15.9% jump in new infections.
It also reported 466 active clusters, including 15 identified today.
For worksite clusters, eight were detected from Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Penang.
The Lembah Sultan and Sg Pinang Tujuh clusters in Selangor cumulatively registered 43 infections.
Meanwhile, the Jalan Kilang Midah and Tapak Bina Persiaran Stonor clusters in Kuala Lumpur have a total of 46 cases.
In Johor, the MoH identified worksite clusters as the Jalan Tey Mia Jen, Jalan Perindustrian Tiga Cluster, and Jalan Bertingkat Skudai clusters with an accumulated 77 infections.
In Penang, only one worksite cluster was identified: the Perusahaan Maju Lapan cluster, which has 67 infections.
The ministry also reported four new clusters involving religious activities in Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, and Kuala Lumpur.
The Kemunting cluster in Pahang registered 16 infections, while the Persiaran Lavender cluster in Negri Sembilan logged 39 cases.
For the Jalan Telipot cluster in Kelantan, 30 infections were detected; as for the Jalan Keramat Wangsa cluster in Kuala Lumpur, there were 31 infections.
Two clusters identified today involved educational institutions in Johor and Selangor. The Jalan Alsagoff cluster in Johor and Impian Indah cluster had 32 infections in total.
