KUALA LUMPUR – Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming only happened to be in Sg Merab last Wednesday, said Wanita Umno head Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad today, after their encounter sparked speculation that the DAP lawmaker’s presence came from instruction by the leadership of her party.

Noraini said in a statement here that she met Ong while she was visiting the Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

“I was at the UKM PPV to meet MyVac (Malaysia Vaccine Support) volunteers who could not return to their hometowns to celebrate Aidilfitri,” she said.

The higher education minister added that Ong had wanted to follow her delegation to visit a UKM doctorate student in Sg Merab in Bangi, as the student is suffering from cancer and the area is under his parliamentary constituency.

As such, Noraini denied allegations that Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had ordered DAP representatives to be invited to every programme organised by the party.

Noraini along with Higher Education Ministry director-general, Prof Datuk Husaini Omar, had last Wednesday visited PhD student Azura Omar to give her support as she goes through her battle with cancer. – Bernama, May 15, 2021
