MIRI – Sarawak has logged four more Covid-19 fatalities today, bringing the state’s death toll to 219, in addition to another 324 new infections.
Miri added the most cases with 146 infections, a new record for the district.
The state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) secretariat said the latest deaths were that of a 63-year-old man in Kanowit Hospital, a 79-year-old woman in Bintulu Hospital, as well as a 92-year-old man and an 87-year-old woman in Sarikei Hospital.
Aside from Miri district, Bintulu saw 36 cases, followed by Sibu (33), Kapit (22), Selangau (16), Pusa (13), Kuching (13), Saratok (10), and other districts with fewer than 10 cases. As at today, the state has 82 active clusters.
The secretariat said that state authorities are finding effective “circuit-breakers” to halt the transmission of the Covid-19 and flatten the infection curve as well as decrease the number of fatalities.
It urged Sarawakians not to travel to high-risk districts and states that are already under movement control order (MCO).
The DMC also announced that the state will be extending its conditional MCO to June 7. – The Vibes, May 15, 2021
