[UPDATED] Covid-19 cases dip below 4,000, 36 deaths recorded

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 infections dropped below the 4,000-mark today, with the Health Ministry (MoH) reporting 3,780 cases.

This brings the nation’s cumulative virus tally to 470,110.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of infections in the country at 1,275, followed by Sarawak (405), Kedah (363), Kelantan (357), Kuala Lumpur (342), Johor (224), Penang (187), Pahang (159), Melaka (122), and Perak (115).

Meanwhile, Sabah registered 87 infections, followed by Negri Sembilan (70), Terengganu (58), Labuan (7), Putrajaya (7), and Perlis (2).

The ministry also reported 36 deaths, bringing the nation's death tally to 1,902.

All the deceased were Malaysians except for one 47-year-old woman who passed away at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile the death of a 29-year-old male was recorded at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar, Seremban.

According to the ministry’s daily report, the deceased had an existing obese condition.

The MoH also stated 520 infections are currently treated at ICUs, with 272 requiring ventilator support.

With regards to clusters, 470 remain active, including the 11 new ones identified by the ministry today.

Four of the clusters involved educational institutions in Selangor and Johor.

The Jalan Sungai Panjang Cluster, Tanah Lesen Cluster and Gugusan Cluster in Selangor cumulatively logged 51 infections, while the Jalan Benut Kluang Cluster in Johor registered 25 cases.

As for community clusters, the Kampung Terusan Cluster (Kelantan), Kampung Boyan Cluster (Sarawak), and the Jalan Abdul Hamid Cluster (Perak) recorded 78 infections in total.

Meanwhile, the MoH reported that the Jalan Kelab Golf Tiga Belas Cluster (Selangor) and Jalan Semabok Cluster (Malacca) involved worksites, recording 34 cases cumulatively.

The Parit Lintang Cluster in Johor and Jalan Menteri Cluster Sabah involved religious activities with a total of 22 infections. – The Vibes, May 16, 2021
