KOTA KINABALU – Sabah’s inter-district travel restrictions will return to the system of dividing up districts by six zones beginning tomorrow.
The ban was previously implemented from May 10 until May 16, and Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said in a statement that it ends as scheduled today.
The zones are divided into:
Zone 1 – Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, Ranau, Tuaran, Penampang, Putatan and Papar
Zone 2 – Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Sipitang
Zone 3 – Kudat, Kota Marudu and Pitas
Zone 4 – Sandakan, Beluran, Kinabatangan and Tongod
Zone 5 – Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Kalabakan
Zone 6 – Keningau, Tambunan and Tenom
However, the ban will resume from May 27 until June 3 with Kota Kinabalu, Putatan and Penampang categorised as one district.
Masidi said the restriction aims to control movement of individuals in Sabah.
As most working groups return to their places of employment tomorrow, many are attempting to return to their work districts.
A total of 209 vehicles were asked to turn back and 14 individuals fined for not possessing a police permit to travel across districts.
Sabah’s Covid-19 crisis appears to have stabilised with 83 new cases recorded today, with Kunak having the highest with 21 followed by Kota Kinabalu (18), Tawau (12) and Kalabakan (12).
