KUCHING – An old video clip featuring opposition Parti Sarawak Baru (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh is making its rounds on social media, in which he is expressing support for the Sarawak chief minister and his ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.
“I wish to categorically state that PSB and I are not a part of GPS which is now supporting the Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government,” he said in a statement.
“Instead, PSB is intent on providing fellow Sarawakians with a viable multi-racial, local-based independent party as a replacement to GPS as PSB believes in building bridges to unite, not walls to divide as we subscribe to the ideals for a better Sarawak.”
Wong, who is the Bawang Assan MP, claimed that the video is being used on social media to mislabel and undermine him and PSB as being pro-GPS.
He assured Sarawakians, especially party supporters, that PSB does not seek to join nor is it a part of GPS but is instead striving to and will “replace GPS” as the next Sarawak government.
“Our party’s principles are crystal-clear – and we shall not answer to nor be dictated by any politician or party from Peninsular Malaysia.
“PSB is for Sarawak and by Sarawakians, united under a common umbrella of bringing change for a new and better Sarawak.
“PSB has and shall firmly adhere to its aim of bringing about change for the people of Sarawak after 58 years of rule by the same BN/GPS coalition parties that have impoverished the people, despite Sarawak being one of the richest partners in Malaysia.”
Wong, who was formerly the state international trade and e-commerce minister, pointed out that PSB’s philosophy is that the wealth of Sarawak belongs to Sarawak.
“Our struggle against this status quo has distanced us from those in power, and PSB has been fighting on its own until today. We will not bow our heads, and would rather work hard than abandon our principles, let alone lose the bottom line.”
He also said PSB is open to working with any like-minded party or parties in the coming next state election to achieve the common objective of providing an alternative to GPS as the Sarawak government.
“In short, we shall be the change which Sarawakians are looking for. We shall not be distracted from this mission and shall work relentlessly with fellow Sarawakians with oneness in purpose towards achieving this common objective.”
He said PSB is ready and fully prepared for this mission to pave the way for change in Sarawak. – The Vibes, May 17, 2021
