MIRI – A Mother’s Day celebration among a family in Bau district in southern Sarawak has ignited another community Covid-19 outbreak.
The new Jalan Jambusan cluster today saw 17 family members down with the coronavirus, said the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat.
“The infections spread during the Mother’s Day celebration attended by 26 family members in a house in the village.
“17 have tested positive while the rest are being screened,” the secretariat said in a statement.
There are two other new clusters today – the Jalan Sultan cluster in Kuching with six workers testing positive in a homestay, and the Stunggang Melayu cluster in Lundu with eight in a village house testing positive.
The secretariat also said that there was a new Covid-19 death, that of a man aged 70, in Sibu Hospital today.
The state’s total Covid-19 death toll has now reached 225, it said while extending condolences to the family of the deceased.
There were 433 new infections today, with Miri having 69 cases, Kapit 61, Sibu 48, Kuching 47, Belaga 43, Bintulu 29, Pakan 25, Selangau 16, and several other districts below 10 cases each.
The secretariat said that an enhanced movement control order has been imposed in two longhouses for next two weeks in Lundu district, involving Rumah Luyuh and Rumah Sut.
This is due to increased cases of infections there.
The secretariat once again urged the people to cooperate by adhering to all standard operating procedures in place to contain the pandemic’s spread. – The Vibes, May 17, 2021
