JOHOR BARU – Johor police have seized 125.78kg of syabu worth over RM4.5 million following the arrest of five individuals in Muar last week.
State police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said 84kg of the drugs, worth RM3.02 million, were seized in a raid on a rented house in Parit Jawa about 1pm on May 12.
Three local men and an Indonesian woman, aged between 36 and 49, were arrested, he told a press conference here today.
Three of them tested positive for methamphetamine, with two having drug-related records.
Police also seized two vehicles and froze a bank account containing RM72,762.50.
“The woman who was arrested is the wife of one of the suspects. This is not the first time the syndicate has smuggled drugs. They did it the first time on May 2, and managed to get away with 76kg of drugs,” said Ayob Khan.
“They got caught during their second attempt. The drugs are believed to have been obtained from the northern part of the country. They were placed in the rented house here before they were to be smuggled to Bengkalis in Indonesia by sea.”
He said the remaining drugs, worth RM1.5 million, were seized after a 40-year-old man was arrested at a roadblock in Jalan Bakar Batu two days later.
“The drugs are believed to be destined for neighbouring countries, as well as the local market. They were found hidden in a special storage area in the car boot.”
The vehicle has been confiscated, and a bank account containing RM81,612.94 frozen, he added.
All the suspects have been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama, May 18, 2021
