MIRI – Sarawak saw five more deaths to the coronavirus today as 512 new infections and two new clusters emerged.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat confirmed the deaths of two women, both aged 73 in Kapit Hospital, another two women aged 51 and 70 in Sibu Hospital, and a man aged 64 in Kapit Hospital.
“The Covid-19 death toll has reached 230 today in Sarawak,” the secretariat said in a statement while extending its condolences to the families of the deceased.
The new Hulu Spoah cluster today saw 20 family members in a village down with the virus while the Jelang cluster in Betong saw 22 residents hit by Covid-19 in a longhouse.
There were 512 new infections today, with Miri logging 96 cases, followed by Bintulu (91), Sibu (69), Kapit (51), Kuching (46), Betong (35), Mabong (20), Sri Aman (18) and several other districts having fewer than 10 cases each.
The secretariat once again urged the people to cooperate by adhering to all SOPs in place to contain the pandemic. – The Vibes, May 18, 2021
