KOTA KINABALU – Sabah police said they are looking for the individuals involved in a demonstration in support of Palestinians held in the early hours of May 12 in Mile 2, Tawau.
State police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said that the group had violated the health standard operating procedures during the current Covid-19 pandemic and should be slapped with the maximum fine.
A viral video of the demonstration had been posted by Sabah local government and housing minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun on his Twitter account.
The said incident allegedly happened during dawn in Mile 2, Tawau, over 400km from the state capital here.
“We are looking for the demonstrators and they should be given the maximum fine for flouting the MCO,” Hazani told reporters briefly at a press conference held at the Sabah police headquarters in Kapayan here.
On another development, two foreigners who had escaped the illegal immigration depot in Manggatal still have not been rearrested, said Hazani.
The two detainees had tried to flee a temporary detention centre on May 13 along with seven others by climbing the perimeter fence of their detention block.
Three were rearrested while climbing the wall, and four others were apprehended at a nearby village around 8pm the same day.
Several inmates caused a disturbance earlier because they were not allowed to be repatriated back to their country of origin during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities. – The Vibes, May 18, 2021
