KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has, for the first time, breached 6,000 new Covid-19 cases, with 6,075 logged today.
Selangor leads with 2,251, more than a third of the fresh infections, reported Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
It is followed by Johor (699), Kuala Lumpur (660), Kedah (445), Kelantan (441) and Sarawak (323).
Perak registered 220 cases, Terengganu (203), Negri Sembilan (189), Penang (183), Sabah (160), Pahang (150) and Melaka (122).
Labuan saw 14 cases, Putrajaya (9) and Perlis (6).
The latest infections bring the national tally to 485,496.
The Health Ministry also announced 46 deaths, all involving Malaysians except for one 48-year-old woman who passed away in Selangor and had a history of diabetes and high-blood pressure.
Three of the deceased were all less than 30-years-old.
A 27-year-old obese woman was dead upon being brought to Sg Buloh; meanwhile, a 17-year-old male suffering from leukemia passed away at Ampang Hospital.
Another patient, a 25-year-old man with a history of Parkinson’s disease, died at Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah, Muar.
With regards to clusters, the ministry reported 516 active including the 22 new clusters identified today.
Eight of the clusters involved worksite clusters in Selangor, Sarawak, Johor, Terengganu, Malacca, Labuan, and Perlis. These worksite clusters logged a total of 337 infections.
The Jalan Tanjung Kupang cluster was a worksite cluster with the highest infections at 199.
For community clusters, the ministry reported seven involving Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, and Malacca. These community clusters registered 115 cases in total.
Five clusters involving religious activities were identified in Selangor, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, and Kelantan, registering 98 cases cumulatively.
Only one cluster involving educational institutions was identified today. The Jalan Senduduk Satu cluster in Johor logged 16 infections. – The Vibes, May 19, 2021
