GEORGE TOWN – The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme committee will lodge a police report over a purported donation of two million Sinovac vaccine doses to Penang, said Jagdeep Singh Deo after the offer was revealed to be bogus.
The state exco said the panel is expected to make the report soon.
“Let the investigation take place. We have genuine intentions of helping people if we have the vaccine. But at that point in time, they said no (to accepting the purported donation) because of the national immunisation programme,” he said, without mentioning names.
He said the issue should not be politicised as Covid-19 does not have political affiliations.
“It was not our intention to politicise it. We are willing to work with the federal government. We are here together as a family, we are working hard day and night, there is no question.
“So, let’s see what comes out of the investigation.”
Jagdeep said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will be the sole spokesman on this issue.
He highlighted, however, that the problem of a low and slow vaccine roll-out in Penang remains.
Yesterday, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin revealed that a company’s offer of two million Sinovac vaccine doses to Penang is fake and the supplier itself has said there are no records of its dealings with the firm.
He said the state government might have been misled over the process.
Chow, in response, asked the company in question to clarify the matter. – The Vibes, May 20, 2021
