GEORGE TOWN – Penang police seized firearms and drugs worth RM3.5 million at a shophouse in Taman Bukit Minyak, Bukit Tengah last Wednesday.
State police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abdul Manan said the raid followed an arrest of a 21-year-old man who was behaving in a suspicious manner in Jalan Bertam, Kepala Batas.
“At the shophouse, the police found a Beretta pistol and 15 live Luger 9mm bullets.
“The police also seized 97,140g of syabu, 190g of heroin, chemical liquids, and equipment and drug packaging machines,” he said in a statement today.
Sahabuddin said the syabu and heroin seized could be used by 486,000 drug addicts, and it was suspected that it would be sold in the local market.
He added that police believed the suspect had been active in drug trafficking activities since last January, and police were also tracking down the rest of his accomplices.
“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect did not have a criminal record and tested negative for drugs.
“However, the suspect is detained to assist in the investigation.”
The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1971, Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960, Section 363 of the Penal Code, and Section 39 (b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – The Vibes, May 21, 2021
