MIRI – Sarawak today logged a record-high of eight Covid-19 deaths, bringing the toll to 247.
Of the eight, five were recorded in Kapit Hospital involving two women – one aged 73 and another aged 72 – and two men, aged 75 and 80.
The remaining fatalities were a 62-year-old woman in Saratok Hospital and two men aged 73 and 83 in Sarikei Hospital.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said in a statement that 612 new infections were recorded today.
Sibu district registered the most cases with 108, followed by Bintulu (103), Miri (86), Kuching (72), Kapit (42), Sarikei (30), Kanowit (26), Mukah (25), Selangau (17), Belaga (14), and Saratok (11), with other districts logging fewer than 10 each.
A new cluster has emerged in Kuching City, the secretariat said.
The Jalan Simpang Tiga cluster involves the Kenyalang Park shopping area. So far, 14 people have been found positive.
