KUALA LUMPUR – Today is the fourth day Malaysia recorded more than 6,000 Covid-19 cases with 6,320 infections, as the country’s tally breaches the 500,000 mark.
The Health Ministry (MoH) also reports another 50 deaths, bringing the toll to 2,199.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia has a cumulative caseload of 505,115.
Some 652 patients are in intensive care, while 370 require ventilator support.
Selangor continues to record the highest infections in the country at 1,647, followed by Sarawak (749), Kuala Lumpur (654), Kelantan (613), Johor (477), Negri Sembilan (396), Penang (276), Pahang (227), Terengganu (185), Sabah (189), and Melaka (175).
Meanwhile, Labuan has 36 infections, Perlis (18), and Putrajaya (18).
One of the victims today was a 35-year-old Malaysian man, who was dead on arrival at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang.
Another victim was a 32-year-old man – a non-citizen, who was also dead on arrival at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The ministry said 535 clusters remain active, including 17 new ones.
Seven of the new clusters involve worksites in Selangor, Johor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Pahang, and Melaka. In total, all these worksite clusters logged 145 infections.
Meanwhile, seven community clusters were detected in Melaka, Johor, Kelantan, Sabah, and Labuan. Cumulatively, these community clusters have 156 Covid-19 cases.
Only two clusters involving religious activities were detected today. The Lembah Keramat cluster in Kuala Lumpur logged 10 infections, while the Kg Gau cluster in Pahang has 16 cases.
As for clusters involving high-risk groups, the MoH only identified the Taman Sg Jelok cluster in Selangor that has 18 infections. – The Vibes, May 22, 2021
