KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the government has no objection if certain quarters want to purchase their own Covid-19 vaccines, but they must first obtain approval from the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency.
“If, for instance, agencies such as Petronas (want to purchase the vaccine), we cannot stop them.
“(But) the condition is that they are safe after being tested and must be licensed… the purchase cannot be done discreetly or smuggled in.”
Muhyiddin said the government is working hard to allow the private sector, including hospitals, to administer the Covid-19 vaccine to expedite the inoculation drive.
“There will be no charge for the process (vaccination carried out by private facilities) as it is borne by the government.
“Maybe we will ask the hospitals involved to charge, say RM14 per shot, (although) the vaccine is free of charge.”
He advised those fully vaccinated to continue to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs), saying Covid-19 infection may still occur.
“Do not violate SOPs. I, myself, have completed both doses, (and) so far, I have tested negative for all my (Covid-19) tests, but I can’t be smug about it as infections are still happening out there.
