KUALA LUMPUR – The hearing of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia Development Bhd case that was scheduled to resume today has been vacated to Thursday as the former prime minister has yet to recover from an eye surgery he underwent last week.
His lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, informed presiding judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah of the matter at the start of today’s proceedings.
“His (Najib’s) doctor has advised him to rest further. The swelling around his eyes has reduced, but there’s still puffiness and redness.
“The doctor advised him to rest accordingly. He will see his doctor again tomorrow.”
Sequerah then vacated today’s hearing to Thursday.
He also ordered the prosecution and defence to ensure only a few of their supporters occupy the courtroom come Thursday, so as to comply with Covid-19 standard operating procedures.
Najib, 67, faces four charges of using his position to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion in 1MDB funds and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same amount. – Bernama, May 25, 2021
