KUALA LUMPUR – Covid-19 infections among children and infants is a cause for concern as they have become groups at risk after the elderly, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
He said this should serve as a wake-up call and measures must be implemented to protect the vulnerable from infection.
“Health Ministry data show that, as of today, 48,261 children and infants have contracted Covid-19 and 6,290 of them are infants 18 months or younger.
“Therefore, parents must constantly monitor to ensure that their children do not play outside their homes, wear masks and often use sanitisers,” he said in his daily statement on the movement control order (MCO).
Ismail Sabri said adults hold the responsibility of protecting children and infants from infection.
Besides complying with standard operating procedures (SOPs), adults should also subject themselves and their families to self-lockdown to avoid getting infected, he added. – Bernama, May 25, 2021
