KUALA LUMPUR – The situation in flood-hit areas in Sarawak and Sabah has improved, with the number of evacuees dropping further this morning.
In Sarawak, the number of evacuees in Limbang district in northern Sarawak dropped slightly to 52 people from 17 families, compared with 62 victims from 19 families yesterday afternoon.
According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, only two relief centres are still open, namely Dewan Kg Bidang with 38 victims from 13 families and Dewan Buloh Baloi with 14 people from four families.
In Sabah, the number of flood victims at evacuation centres dropped to 3,435 people from 913 families this morning, compared to 3,978 people from 1,132 families yesterday.
The Sabah Disaster Management Committee, in a statement, said seven relief centres in Tenom were shut down this morning, leaving 20 centres in the district still in operation with 2,832 people from 758 families.
The number of evacuees in Beaufort remains at 603 people from 155 families, housed at four relief centres.
Floods due to heavy rain since last Thursday affected 47 villages in Tenom and 75 villages in Beaufort. – Bernama, May 26, 2021
