KOTA KINABALU – Travel to and from Labuan is restricted effective immediately following the discovery of the Indian Covid-19 variant in the Federal Territory, said Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
However, he said an exception is given to movements related to essential goods and services, health supplies and security, after receiving permission.
“Ferry services are allowed only for essential goods and services. Application by long-distance couples will not be considered from May 28 to June 7.”
He said failure by the public and outlet owners to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) is the main reason for the sudden spike in Covid-19 cases in the state.
Sabah logged double-digit new cases late last month after registering a record number of cases during the state polls last year.
It continues to log three-digit daily cases and registered 229 fresh infections today.
“Outlet owners must exhibit health SOPs at their respective establishments,” said Masidi.
“They are advised to continuously use the PA system to ensure patrons adhere to SOPs.”
He said the authorities will be supplying posters with a hotline number to complain about lockdown rule violations.
