KUALA LUMPUR – The government has imposed the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) on more localities in Perak, Pahang, Terengganu and Sabah due to the Covid-19 surge in these areas, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Perak’s Sitiawan and Manjung subdistricts will be under the EMCO for two weeks starting Saturday after logging 135 infections with a positivity rate of 58.7%.
“Following a risk analysis by numerous agencies in the MCO technical committee, the government has agreed to impose the EMCO from May 29 to June 11,” said Ismail Sabri.
Three localities in Pahang’s Bera – Bandar Triang, Pekan Kemayan and Gugusan Mendi – will be under the EMCO for the same period.
“Seventy-six Covid-19 cases were detected out of 1,258 individuals, which is a positivity rate of 6%,” said Ismail Sabri.
He said the Kuala Berang and Hulu Terengganu subdistricts in Terengganu were found to have 37 cases out of 213 individuals, making for a positivity rate of 17.4%.
“There has been an outbreak in all localities with high infection rates. The government agreed to implement the EMCO effective May 29 to June 11.”
In Sabah, Kg Baru Durok in Keningau and Kg Mook in Kinarut, Papar, will be placed under the order for the same period.
Ismail Sabri said the Health Ministry detected 28 infections in Kg Baru Durok and nine in Kg Mook.
“The ministry found a spike in cases within a short span, with a high infection rate.”
He said police arrested 724 individuals yesterday for violating various standard operating procedures.
The offences are not observing physical distancing (227), failure to register details when entering premises (148), not wearing a mask (130), failure to comply with the MCO (130), cross-border travel without permission (63) and others (88). – The Vibes, May 27, 2021
