GEORGE TOWN – The Penang government has suggested for hotel owners to convert their properties to Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres temporarily.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin in a statement today said Penang hotel owners have expressed interest in transforming their premises into quarantine centres.
“Interested hotels can submit their written application to (my office) and the Penang Health Department.
“This will help generate a three-way win involving the government, people and hotel industry.”
It will avoid overcrowding at current treatment centres, especially when Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases are at record highs, he added.
“Secondly, the public will have venue options. Those who are financially able and prefer more privacy may opt for these quarantine centres (at hotels).
“Thirdly, it helps ensure the survival of our hotel industry during this period when tourism activities are halted.” – The Vibes, May 28, 2021
