KENINGAU – With Sabah having the lowest number of registered Covid-19 vaccinations, village heads and the Village Community Development Council (MPKK) have now been asked to coax people under their care to register for the shots.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan said that Sabah’s registration rate was too low, 17.6% as at Tuesday, which made it harder for the state to achieve herd immunity.
“I urge Sabahans to register for the Covid-19 vaccination.
“We must reach herd immunity as fast as possible.
“Village heads and MPKK can play a role to register those under their care, especially those who do not know how to do it themselves,” he said.
Meanwhile, he advised the public to adhere to Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) following the implementation of a full lockdown.
“The government is doing everything possible to prevent the spread of Covid-19 so that the people can return to their normal lives.
“We are all eager to revive Sabah’s economy, but we can only do it if we are confident that the people’s lives are not in danger,” said Jeffrey after distributing food baskets and other essentials to villagers in Kg Durok.
The village was placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting today after recording 68 new cases.
Liawan assemblyman Datuk Annuar Ayub who was at the event said the government, through the Keningau District Office, will carry out the Bantuan Prihatin Covid-19 programme at the village besides providing food aid to the 75 affected families.
