KUALA LUMPUR – Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah will make an announcement at 5pm, two days before the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown takes effect.
They are expected to make known the revised standard operating procedures and related information.
Their press conference will be carried on Astro 502, myFreeview 121, Unifi TV 631, Facebook Live and Bernama TV’s YouTube channel.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Friday night announced that Malaysia will be placed under a total lockdown from June 1 to 14.
All sectors are ordered closed except for essential economic activities and services, which will be listed by the National Security Council.
The announcement came the same day the country recorded its then highest daily Covid-19 caseload of 8,290.
“If this Phase 1 lockdown successfully reduces daily Covid-19 cases, the government will move to a Phase 2 lockdown, allowing the reopening of some economic sectors that do not involve large crowds and can be subject to physical distancing.
“This Phase 2 lockdown will be implemented for a period of four weeks after Phase 1 has ended.
“After Phase 2 ends, the next step is Phase 3, which is to implement the movement control order similar to what is currently enforced – social activities are not allowed, but almost all economic sectors are allowed to operate subject to strict SOPs and limited physical attendance at the workplace,” said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Muhyiddin said the decision to move from one phase to the next will be based on a risk assessment by the Health Ministry. – The Vibes, May 30, 2021
