[UPDATED] Daily Covid-19 count drops to 6,999, almost half in Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR – The country recorded 6,999 coronavirus cases today, a drop of more than 2,000 from the tally yesterday.

Of the fresh infections, 3,093 are in the Klang Valley, reported the Health Ministry.

By state, Selangor is again in the lead with 2,477 cases. It is followed by Kuala Lumpur (616), Kelantan (612), Sarawak (513), Negri Sembilan (468), Johor (433) and Kedah (422).

Penang recorded 248 cases, Pahang (239), Terengganu (214), Perak (212), Melaka (202), Sabah (190), Labuan (133), Putrajaya (13) and Perlis (7).

In total, Malaysia has logged 565,533 Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.

On the other hand, discharged Covid-19 patients rose by 5,121, bringing the overall number of recoveries from the virus to 484,787.

As for fatalities, 79 were recorded today – all but one being Malaysian citizens – as the national Covid-19 death toll jumped to 2,729.

846 patients are currently being treated in intensive care units, while 419 require ventilator support.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 79 fatalities today, Selangor and Negri Sembilan each recorded 15, while Kedah has 13, Johor (12) and Penang (5).

Melaka and Terengganu each recorded four, Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur each recorded three, Sabah recorded two, and Perak, Pahang and Labuan each logged one, he added.

To date, Malaysia has registered 2,163 clusters, including 17 new ones today. A total of 1,528 clusters have ended, while 635 are active.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the new clusters today, six are related to workplaces, seven from the community, two from religious events, one from a higher learning institution, and another from a high-risk group.

Selangor’s Jalan Kasuarina workplace cluster in Klang and Gombak logged 51 cases, while its Balakong Batu Dua Belas workplace cluster in Hulu Langat has 29.

Kuala Lumpur registered the Perindustrian Batu Caves workplace cluster in Kepong with 50 cases; Kolej Bunga Raya cluster in Lembah Pantai (10); and Desa Melawati high-risk group cluster in Titiwangsa (16).

Perak’s Taman Industri Pelabuhan workplace cluster in Manjung logged 13 cases, while Penang’s Lorong Jelawat Dua workplace cluster in Seberang Prai logged 10 cases, and its Jalan Veterinari community cluster in Seberang Prai has 35.

Kelantan registered the Kg Tg community cluster with 13 cases, and Taman Wahyu community cluster with nine – both in Pasir Mas.

Johor’s Jalan Sri Putri 11 community cluster in Kulai logged 11 cases, while its Jalan Laksamana Tiga religious activity cluster in Johor Baru has 15.

Sarawak registered the Gerigat community cluster in Kabong and Betong with 20 cases, and Sg Parik community cluster in Seri Aman and Lubok Antu (24).

Finally, Terengganu’s Sg Ular community cluster in Hulu Terengganu logged 20 cases, while Pahang’s Kg Pagi religious activity cluster in Jerantut logged 10 cases. – The Vibes, May 30, 2021
